“From the harvest table to your table!”
Recently we went to check out a cool shop/bistro that we had heard of in Parker, ON, called “The Harvest Table”. Known to sell meat and produce from farms in very close proximity, we had to head out and sample the freshness for ourselves. For starters lunch was a must, I mean how can you shop amidst tons of tasty treats on an empty stomach, so first stop second floor bistro. The menu is limited, embracing the philosophy of “create a few things and do them very well!” They provide a homemade soup of the day, salad, coleslaw and about 5 meat-based sandwiches featuring a pesto-chicken, sausage on a bun, a mixed beef and pork burger, among other fabulous finds. I had the pesto-chicken on a bun and it was really delicious and super fresh! The thing that I liked the most about lunch was that the dishes were reasonably sized and very flavorful, rather than a huge portion of mediocre fare. You can tell it’s all about a quality product!
After lunch we browsed around the shop and, naturally, I grabbed some amazing fresh baked goods, specifically butter tarts and tea biscuits. The butcher counter is what really caught my attention and after talking to one of the owners we learned about the idea and philosophy behind the shop, bringing European flair to quality local meat; the best of both worlds in their eyes. They boast working “very closely with local farmers to provide you with a drug and antibiotic-free product” and it definitely shows.
If you get a chance pop out there for a great lunch, steaks and sausages to throw on the bbq for dinner, and a fresh butter tart to top it all off for dessert. They also have an amazing outdoor patio that is prepped and ready to go for those sunny summer afternoons.
